Subj: Williams et al From: Timalton@aol.com Dear John Woolfolk, Thanks for your article in the paper today on the recent agreements with Williams and the news of subpoenas to other power companies. As someone who feels that the MEC power plant was thrust upon us in a false crisis, I see that your article contains a familiar theme from the energy company: "Williams officials admitted no wrongdoing and said the renegotiation allows both sides to put the energy crisis behind them." But according to the CAISO some $60 million dollars has actually been paid in fines for witholding power during ISO declared emergencies in the winter/spring of 2001, the time when the Governor twisted the Mayor's arm, and another $60 million remains unpaid. Somebody is guilty of wrongdoing. Are you aware of this and have you tried to find dates, amounts withheld and parties responsible? The power companies are keen to protect the sanctity of their high priced contracts but their performance in delivering power should be a matter of public record. It would be of great service to consumers of California if you could get CAISO to publish the detailed information on these fines. Regards, |
