A 16-year-old boy was shot Saturday night during a fight that spilled from a house party into San Jose’s Melody Park, police said Sunday.
Police were called to Nokomis Drive and Lo Bue Way, near Hellyer Avenue and Highway 101, at 9:46 p.m. amid reports that several shots had been fired during a scuffle, San Jose police spokesman Jermaine Thomas said. The boy, whom police did not identify, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Thomas said the scuffle had erupted among several partygoers at a nearby residence before moving to the park where the boy was shot. He said police did not yet know whether the fight was fueled by alcohol but that it didn’t appear to be gang-related.
There were no arrests in the shooting as of late Sunday, Thomas said.
