Santa Teresa Citizen Action Group Update -- March 12, 1999

by Elizabeth Cord - Santa Teresa Citizen Action Group

Notice all the huge issues suddenly facing our neighborhood?

How can we all follow all these issues? How can we be informed about the major issues which face our community? How can we be good citizens with so much going on, and also have a job, a life, a family?

Santa Teresa Citizen Action Group, a grassroots neighborhood organization formed in 1998 to address Plaza de Santa Teresa issues, is now inviting community participation to broaden our focus and begin to form committees to look into the various issues facing our neighborhood. By pooling our time, talent, and resources, we can more efficiently share knowledge about the concerns which will accompany all these proposals. Working together, we can all be informed and be able to act as good stewards for our community.

Our neighborhood (including Coyote) is the last great undeveloped area in San Jose, really in the Bay Area. All eyes are focused on the development many groups hope to pursue here.

Can we assume that all decisions will be good ones, leave it to others to research and follow through, do what they want with our neighborhood? Can we become informed about these issues which could greatly impact our homes, our community, our finances, our health, our environment?

Working together, we can. More importantly, we should. Let's be proud of our neighborhood, and what we leave to the next generation.

Interested? Plan to attend the 3/18 Community Meeting; we will hear reports from all who pledged solutions for the Plaza de Santa Teresa issue. Afterwards, we will begin preliminary plans for an ongoing citizens' group to address major new issues as they develop in our community. Call Elizabeth (365-8270), or email STAction for more info.

Be Informed. Be Involved. Be a citizen. These issues are too important to ignore. We have scheduled April 15, 1999 (Tax Day) at the Santa Teresa High School Gym to hear the first reports back from various committees. Plan to attend.
