Rancho Santa Teresa Swim & Racquet Club 286 Sorrento Way San Jose
President's Message

The pool will open on April 5th at 3:30PM for your enjoyment this season.  We have all worked hard to have the club ready for the opening.  I wish to thank the Board and Staff for all their hard work.  We have the staff hired and training is underway. You will see new and old staff members along with several new monthly activities. Please be sure to bring your membership card when coming to the club.

We have some new benches and pots in the adult pool area.  We are trying to add some color to the area.  Jose, the gardener has removed some tress that were causing some problems.  We are going to tent the buildings in April for termites. This will stop the damage that has been going on for years.

My thanks go to Christine Alves for putting in the time to do this newsletter every month.  It is a big job and we do appreciate it.  Don McRoberts and Isao Kobashi and I are working on the bylaws and CCR's and reserve analysis.  Mecca Conaulty and Angie Cardoza are working on the Crab Feed for April.

Gail Krause and Jenny Winchester are putting on the Easter Event.  Details are included on the flyer enclosed with the hardcopy newsletter.  Bill Coye has been working with Bruce Hearn and myself to get the maintenance and repair items completed

Have a safe and enjoyable season at the club.  This is your club and if you have any suggestions or recommendations, please let us know.

Dennis Bane,
President

Emergency Preparedness
Captain Ty Chew, of the Santa Clara County Fire Department, has offered to assist me to develop a structured program for neighborhood Emergency Preparedness.  Beginning with the May 1999 newsletter, there will be informational articles providing ways to safeguard your family and home.   In addition, we will schedule monthly workshops that will expand on the newsletter articles and help you create a step-by-step document that will be an excellent reference for your entire family.   There is also a possibility that guest speakers will be available.   This program is something you and your family do not want to miss.

Board Seeks Volunteers To Work On Club Reserve Fund
The Board of Directors is seeking volunteers to analyze and develop recommendations on the creation of a reserve account.  In 1997, the Board of Directors hired the Trower Company to conduct a visual inspection of the Club facilities as part of a study of state mandated reserve account requirements.  The reserve account is used to defray the future repair or replacement of, or additions to, those major components of the club which we, as homeowners in Rancho Santa Teresa, are obligated to maintain.  The reserve account is different from an operating budget which is used to pay for current operating expenses.  We will provide you with additional information about the Reserve Fund requirements, in future Club Newsletters.
Members interested in volunteering should call the Club at 227-5758.

Our March camp out was held at Mt. Diablo State Park.  As part of the Rim Rover hiking program, the boys made the trek up Mt. Diablo on Saturday and enjoyed the beautiful view of the Bay Area.  The weather was favorable and all had a good time.  The April camp out will be held at Uvas Canyon County Park on April 9 - 11, where the Scouts will practice their skills for the District Camp-O-Ree coming up the first weekend in May.  Last year Troop 227 took home the Presidential Award and plans to repeat this year.
Troop 227 meets at the Club on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 PM and we encourage boys between the ages of 10½ and 18 to come visit our Troop.  The Troop has an exciting program planned for 1999 that promisese to be filled with fun and adventure, as well as learnign life skills andgood citizenship.
