Join Us for a Candidate’s Forum

-by Marie Arnold

Get our your day-timer and mark: Thursday, January 20th , 7:30 - 8:30 PM in the George Miner School cafeteria. Come out and meet city council candidates Kathy Chavez Napoli, Forrest Williams and Maria Ferrer. Hear who they are and learn what plans they have for your community.

This one hour forum can help you vote intelligently on March 7th for the candidate who most closely articulates your philosophy. This is your opportunity to be responsible and to become better informed. It's your privilege! Take a short walk after dinner to your neighborhood school. This is grass roots politics. One of these candidates will be your voice at the city council. The choice is yours -affect your future! They are interested in hearing your concerns for this community. How can they serve you if they haven't heard your needs?

You will soon be deciding which of these three candidates to vote for; come and hear them Thursday and then make an informed decision.

Y2K - Now What?

-by Bruce Mann

Well, Y2K has passed as a non disaster, except the date on my computer based answering machine. Those of you who did store extra food, water, propane, etc., should now consider how to remain in that prepared state all the time. The rest of you should consider what would have happened if Y2K had been a disaster.

We are still negotiating with the school district on location for the emergency ARC at Miner school. We have some radio equipment and will be purchasing more in the next few weeks. We have another new Ham Radio operator in the neighborhood, but need more to be licensed. Also, San Jose Prepared is going strong but we need more trained neighbors. Call 277-4595 for information, or Bruce Mann at 226-4585.

Watch for our annnual preparedness fair in March!

Keep Your Home Values Up!

- by Joanie Francis, Century 21 Alpha

Keep your home values up by performing ongoing maintenance and repairs.

Exterior painting, attention to landscaping, grass cutting, tree trimming, sidewalk and driveway repairs are essential. Completing roof and gutter repairs in a timely fashion will increase their life expectancy.

Clean oil and grease stains from the driveway. Replacing single pane with dual pane windows will save energy, and increase the sale price of your home.

Put away tools, garbage cans, hoses, toys and building materials neatly in the garage. Rake leaves, remove dead plants, flowers or shrubs.

If each homeowner keeps their home in good condition, it will enhance your total community and neighborhood.

Any repairs that you do to your home will definitely contribute to a good selling price if you decide to sell your home. You only have one chance to make a good first impression!!

Today's selling market is extremely hot. If you decide to sell please call: Joanie/Rich, Century 21 Alpha

World Congress of Families

- by Beverly Moffitt

In November of the past year I attended the World Congress of Families II in Geneva, Switzerland. 1500 men and women from over 45 countries, representing many ethnic, cultural, social, and religious communities met for three days to affirm that the natural human family is the fundamental social unit of all societies and the center of civilization. As the family declines, so does the society.World renowned leaders such as Madame Jehan Sadat expressed their support and concern for the natural family. In her words, "When the family is sound and the relationship between its members is rooted firmly in mutual love, trust, respect, and dignity; then, and only then, can the entire community hope to be strong and weather the storms of life. Under any other conditions, society, no matter how developed or how prosperous, is doomed." It was an eye-opening and strengthening three days and perhaps I can share more of what was learned at a future neighborhood meeting.
